A man who allegedly attacked a woman with a hammer at a fast food restaurant in Newhall has been booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Yunior Gonzales was being held on $30,000 bail in a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station jail cell Wednesday.

Gonzalez, 38, lives on the 11700 block of Glamis Street in Sylmar and is employed as a welder, according to county records.

The attack occurred in parking lot of Carl's Jr., restaurant near Highway 14 at the intersection of Sierra Highway and Newhall Avenue, said a Carl's Jr. employee who wished to remain anonymous.

Deputies took a digital recording of video from the restaurant's cameras, the employee said, but he didn't know if the assault was on the recording.

Gonzalez is scheduled to appear in court Thursday to face the charges of assault with a deadly weapon, the records show.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, deputies were called to the restaurant for a report of a man who allegedly struck a woman were not disclosed.

Gonzalez was arrested just before 9 a.m. Tuesday at a gas station near Foothill Boulevard and Maclay Street in San Fernando.
