Every year, the Santa Clarita Chapter of Pet Assistance Foundation of California holds two December "Pet Photos with Santa" events.

The first was this past Saturday. The second is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Saugus at the Pet Supply store located on the corner of Bouquet Canyon and Seco Canyon roads, next to the Rite Aid.

Eleven unpaid but highly- skilled volunteers - all essential - were on site last Saturday and will be on site this coming Saturday to produce what we think is an extraordinary value for all our customers.

In addition to the fully costumed Santa, there is our top-notch photographer, Zoe-Anne Fitzhugh, who is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art Nikon digital camera.

To get the best shots, Zoe will stand, stoop, bend, kneel and lie down, taking anywhere from five to 50 or more shots, as necessary, all to get at least one priceless photo of each subject.

You pay only for the picutures you want to keep. Zoe spends so much time kneeling for good shots, she wears construction kneepads.

Immediately after your five to 50 pictures are taken, you will move to one of two computer stations, staffed by computer experts Arnie Kazdoy and Bruce McFarland. Arnie and Bruce will show you, via high-resolution LCD computer monitors, each of the just-taken pictures, so that you may choose just the ones you want.

In the event none of the photos fits your desires, we are pleased to shoot them again as many times as necessary, so that perfect shot can be yours.

Once you decide on which pictures you like, you may order them in a huge array of options, including wallet-size 4x6s, 8x10s, Christmas cards, coffee mugs and more. Prices start at only $10.

Bruce McFarland spends as much time as necessary on the photos you choose, cropping, red-eye reduction, zooming in or out, and more - all to make sure your result is of the highest quality.

Our picture subjects can be anything you wish. Sometimes we've had as many as 10 animals in one photo with Santa.

Two to four dogs or cats, with or without adults and children, are all frequent subjects, and all are most welcome by the 11 of us.

The other eight people on site are there to help you, too. Lori Huling and Jane Parker will welcome you, show you samples, give you our order forms and answer all your questions about Pet Assistance. Carol Vincelli is our courteous and professional cashier.

To help children and animals feel safe, welcome and at ease, we have some of the most caring people and animal lovers found anywhere on site to help position the animals, walk dogs as necessary, help get the best shots by waving streamers, ringing bells, or doing anything necessary.

Local animal-rescue legend Linda Furlano is joined by Mykeal Storm and Rebecca Kazdoy, all of whom extend a warm holiday welcome to all, regardless of leg number, and make certain that everyone's animals are safe and cared for.

Charmaine Posten is the long-time volunteer president of the Santa Clarita Chapter of the Pet Assistance Foundation of California and oversees the entire operation. Pet Assistance is a 100 percent all-volunteer operation with no paid staff whatsoever.

One hundred percent of your photo purchase goes to animal welfare right here in Santa Clarita and is tax deductable.

We hope to see you and your human and animal family this Saturday.

Our deepest thanks to The Signal and our other benefactors for their tremendous support.
