PALM DESERT (AP) — Riverside County animal services officials say two women have been bitten by coyotes near a retirement community in Palm Desert.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports the two women, both 69 years old, were bitten near the Del Webb Sun City retirement community.

In the most recent attack, Amy Williams says she was taking her daily walk at 4:30 a.m. Sunday when the coyote bit her right calf.

A California Fish & Game warden shot and killed a coyote near where Williams was bitten.

The earlier attack came on June 14, when a woman was bitten while pulling weeds from her flower bed.

Animal services officials say a coyote from the first attack was trapped and humanely destroyed.

Both animals tested negative for rabies.
