Gas prices throughout the Santa Clarita Valley sank below $4 a gallon this week and continued their decline statewide.

All stations in the SCV were selling regular gas for $3.99 a gallon or less as of Tuesday afternoon, according to information from the gasoline price-tracking website

Gas prices ranged from a high of $3.99 a gallon Tuesday to as low as $3.59 a gallon at a membership-only store in Santa Clarita, according to information from

Prices have dropped about 20 cents a gallon from just one week ago, when prices in the SCV ranged from $3.79 a gallon to $4.25 a gallon on June 18.

In California, gas prices averaged $3.88 a gallon for regular on Monday — a decline of 14 cents from a week earlier, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Prices have not averaged less than $4 a gallon in California since February, a spokeswoman from Automobile Club of Southern California said last week.

Gas prices in California are still nearly five cents a gallon more expensive than they were a year ago, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Prices nationally also declined to an average of $3.44 a gallon — dropping a little more than nine cents from the previous week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

“The national average has now dropped to its lowest level since Feb. 4,” said Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan in a news release.
