Santa Clarita Valley residents should arrive early if they want a good seat for the Fourth of July fireworks show at the Westfield Valencia Town Center on Wednesday, a city official said.

The display will begin at 9:15 p.m., said Gail Ortiz, spokeswoman for the city of Santa Clarita. The city-sponsored fireworks show will last 30 to 40 minutes.

Spectators can tune to KHTS AM 1220 during the show for music synchronized to the fireworks, Ortiz said.
Several roads will be closed have reduced lanes available to motorists up to four hours before the fireworks show, according to a city news release.

n McBean Parkway will only have one lane open heading northbound toward Valencia Boulevard and only one lane open southbound toward Magic Mountain Parkway starting at 5 p.m.

n At about 6:45 p.m., McBean Parkway between Valencia and Magic Mountain will be shut down completely to north- and southbound traffic.

n Only one lane of eastbound and westbound Valencia Boulevard will be open to traffic between Citrus Street and McBean starting at 7:15 p.m.

n Only one lane of eastbound and westbound Magic Mountain Parkway will be open to traffic between McBean and Citrus starting at 8 p.m.

Ortiz urged residents to be patient with road closures and said the city is shutting down the streets for pedestrian and spectator safety.

A Newhall mother was killed on July 4, 2010, and two of her children injured when two cars collided on Valencia Boulevard during the fireworks show and one careened into the crowd.

The driver of the car was sentenced to 180 days in Los Angeles County jail after pleading no contest to manslaughter charges, but she was released in December 2011, 67 days ahead of schedule.

A wrongful death lawsuit was filed by the victim’s family against all public and most private agencies involved in the yearly fireworks displays. The lawsuit is pending.
