WHAT: Traffic congestion and delays on Interstate 5 (I-5) in Kern and Los Angeles Counties.

WHEN: Through the summer season, including the July 4th holiday.

WHERE: On I-5 (northbound and southbound) near Buttonwillow and Lebec in Kern County and Gorman in Los Angeles County.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), in cooperation with various contractors, continue the work of rehabilitating and reconstructing portions of I-5 through the highly travelled corridor between Kern and Los Angeles Counties.

Construction Signage, Barriers and Concrete K-Railing have been installed and traffic lanes are closed on I-5 in and near the communities of Buttonwillow, Lebec and Gorman. Motorists should expect delays due to construction within construction project limits and beyond.

Construction activities and associated lane-closures will remain in-place this weekend and through the 4th of July Holiday. If possible, motorists should avoid traveling through these areas on Fridays and Sundays between 4:00pm and 8:00pm to avoid higher levels of congestion and longer delays.

Changeable Message Signage (CMS), Highway Advisory Radios (HAR) and other communicative devices are in-place along Interstate 5 and advising motorists of alternate routes and estimated delay times.

Caltrans thanks the residents, businesses and commuters for their patience during these construction projects.

The public is asked to “Slow for the Cone Zone” while traveling through construction areas and reminds motorists to please “Move Over or Slow Down” for all Construction, Maintenance and Emergency Response Vehicles working along and near the roadway.
