PALMDALE, Calif. (AP) — A wildfire that charred about 200 acres of rural ranchland 50 miles north of Los Angeles has been contained.

LA County fire officials say crews had the blaze fully surrounded late Tuesday after using three water-dropping helicopters to battle flames.

The fire was reported just after 9 p.m. Tuesday about four miles west of downtown Palmdale, a city of 150,000 people.

Firefighters protected several ranch homes, before flames started moving into a more rural area. One ranch was briefly evacuated. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
