One person was taken to a hospital with major injuries this morning following a two-car collision on Highway 14 near Sand Canyon Road, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.

About 6:50 a.m., a 2003 Ford Explorer SUV with two occupants traveling southbound on the freeway in the car pool lane made “an unsafe lane change,” colliding with the rear of a second vehicle just south of Sand Canyon Road, said CHP Sgt. John Lutz.

The SUV reportedly clipped the back end of a 2011 Honda Accord traveling south in the lane adjacent to the car pool lane.

“The (SUV) vehicle lost control and hit the center divider, overturned several times and ended up in lane two,” he said.

The passenger in the Explorer suffered major injuries, Lutz said, while the driver suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Accord suffered no significant injuries, he said.
