On this date in the SCV: In 1944, two sailors were found guilty of first degree murder for the death of a North Hollywood man, whose beaten body was found at the foot of a steep bank in Solemint. In their testimony, each man accused the other of the events that preceded the death and both denied having committed the murder.

Today’s Highlight in History: On July 11, 1937, American composer and pianist George Gershwin died at a Los Angeles hospital of a brain tumor; he was 38.
