Letters: Tim Meyers got it wrong

In response to “A Jeep takes important role in parade,” July 7:

When Tim Myers observed that Sen. Fran Pavley, D — California’s participation in our Fourth of July parade led him “to believe this constitutes the first time life brought her to the ‘mean streets’ of Newhall,” he was dead wrong.

When she was mayor of the newly incorporated city of Agoura Hills, she made a huge effort to help our cityhood initiative get on the ballot.

She spoke first at a meeting sponsored by our Zonta and Soroptimist clubs in February 1985, and spoke or served as a panel member at a number of other meetings.

She helped us hire Fred Bien as our interim city manager. At various meetings of mayors of Los Angeles County cities, she supported our positions consistently. Her area voted to support Canyon County formation.

She nominated Jill Klajic to the L.A. County Hazardous-Waste Management Committee when we were fighting the Elsmere Canyon dump. Jill won a seat when we needed representation desperately.

No outside elected official did more to help us during our incorporation drive and the early years of cityhood than Fran Pavley.

Tim needs to take an occasional look at the index of my book, “Santa Clarita.” He has a copy, and there are more in each branch of our library.
