Stay Green Inc. received two big awards from the California Landscape Contractors Association June 29.

The Santa Clarita landscaping company competed against a number of peer landscape companies at the nonprofit trade organization of licensed landscape and landscape-related contractors in regional and state competitions.

Stay Green earned the first place award for Large Municipality for its landscape management of a 4-million square foot area in the city of Santa Clarita’s North Park area, a landscape maintenance district at McBean and Sunset Hills. The area incluldes Chesebrough Park, 2,000 residential dwellings and five commercial properties included in the region as well.

The landscaper also won the Outstanding Achievement award for a medium commercial property. Stay Green manages the Starz Plaza, a 150,000 square foot Class A office park, with 45,000 square feet of landscaping, adjacent to the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank.

“We firmly believe that beautiful, high-quality, cost-effective and environmentally friendly work has its own reward,” said Chris Angelo, CEO and president of Stay Green.

Earning top level awards helps the company grow, through reputation, and recruit and retain among the best of the landscape professionals, Angelo said. The company focuses on using sustainability practices and water management in its landscaping designs.

Despite the economy, Stay Green employs more than 300 people and has continued to grow. Earlier this year the company acquired Wurzel Landscape, a Studio City-based commercial landscape maintenance company founded in 1975. The addition gained Stay Green an even greater foothold in the Southern California landscape services market.

This is not the first time the landscaping firm was recognized for outstanding landscape design and management. In 2011 it collected seven awards from the California Landscape Contractors Association, including best overall honors for Westfield Valencia Town Center mall.

“Everyone at Stay Green is very proud and appreciate of our most recent awards,” Angelo said. “They’re critical acknowledgements of our team’s tremendous dedication to our valued clients and the landscape professional as a whole.”
