When toys are collected for underprivileged kids, those 12 years and older are often left out, though their needs are just as great as their younger siblings.'

Santa Clarita Child and Family Center employees are collecting $20 and $25 gift cards to fill those needs.

"When people give to toy drives, the donations are generally not for people 12 years old and over," said Lois Bauccio, executive director of the Child and Family Center. "We want to serve about 300 teens."

Bauccio suggested gift cards from stores with a wide variety of items available, such as Kohl's, Target or Walmart. Teens can then make choices for things they want or need.

"We are very hopeful that we will get enough donations," Bauccio said.

She said the Child and Family Center hosts a gift-card drive annually, but this is the first time employees have undergone such a large-scale project.

Anyone who would like to donate a gift card can drop it off at the center's main office, located at 21545 Centre Pointe Parkway in Santa Clarita.
