A 49-year-old man collapsed and died Saturday following a game of paintball, a Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station official said.

Deputies responded to a call from Paintball USA at 15112 Sierra Highway in Canyon Country around 4:30 p.m., according to Lt. Bill Weiss of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“They were doing paintball, and after a match, he collapsed,” Weiss said. “People on the scene gave him CPR prior to the ambulance responding. He had a pulse when he got to the hospital and died there.”

The lieutenant said he did not have the man’s identification.

The man was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Weiss said. A hospital spokeswoman said she could not release any information without a patient identification.

A Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department spokesman said he had no information about the victim.

No one at Paintball USA could be reached for comment.

“It seemed like it was cardiac arrest,” Weiss said. “They were playing in 100-degree heat.”

The high temperature in Saugus, the closest temperature-recording station to Canyon Country, reached 102 Saturday.
