In an apparent episode of road rage by the lake, two people fighting over a parking spot ended up being rushed to hospital late Sunday afternoon.

One of those injured in the altercation was a woman who had recently undergone surgery, said Parks Bureau Deputy Johnie Jones of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Her injuries are believed to be serious due to the implications of recent surgery, Jones said.

She was also found unconscious on the ground by emergency response personnel.

Shortly before 5 p.m., on the lower shores of Castaic Lake near Paradise Cove, two groups of people arrived at the same time and tried to park in the same spot, Jones said.

“The two families started fighting over a parking lot space,” Jones said. “They were really getting into it.

“One of our (Parks Bureau) sergeants was there, and he called for extra units.”

An official at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station confirmed that local deputies were called to the lake.

When they arrived at Paradise Cove, a woman was found on the ground.

“We received the call as an unconscious person at the lake,” said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Ed Pickett of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“We initially had it as a person passed out,” he said. “We ended up dispatching two ambulances.”

The injured people were taken to hospital at 5:14 p.m., Pickett said.

County paramedics had already been dispatched to Castaic Lake less than hour before the fight for an unrelated incident.

An 82-year-old man was found on the dock bleeding, Pickett said.

He was treated and taken to hospital.

Paradise Cove is a popular spot at the Castaic Lake Lagoon.

A nearby picnic area on top of a small plateau overlooking the cove offers visitors a panoramic view of the lake.
