Can it be August this week? Really? Parents, it’s time to start your back-to-school shopping! Countdown to the first day is just weeks away!

Citrus Classic Balloons

If you missed the fifth annual Citrus Classic Balloon Festival, just down Highway 126 in Santa Paula, you have to wait an entire year for the next opportunity to see these magnificent hot air balloons in action.

The weather was perfect on Saturday morning as many of the balloons were able to launch into the clear skies over Santa Paula. According to Signal photographer Jonathan Pobre it was a truly spectacular sight. The evening balloon glow on Friday night was also an amazing experience. The Sunset Wine Dinner offered incredible food and a great view of the balloons. I liked the stage and band being across the field from where the dinner was held. We could still hear the music and talk to everyone at our table. Nice! Kudos to Carla Edwards and everyone associated with this wonderful event!

Heart of the West

It’s only a month until the 16th annual Heart of the West to benefit Carousel Ranch. The dinner, auction and children’s demonstration will be held Aug. 25. Cost is $85 for general seating or $175 VIP seating. Event benefits the therapeutic riding ranch for physically and mentally challenged children. Auction items, live and silent being sought. Stop and say goodbye

Stop by today through Tuesday to say goodbye to Vino 100. The store will be open for a final few hours today, noon to 5 p.m., Monday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The store closes forever on Tuesday. I will truly miss Shari Frazier and Lil Lepore, the dynamic duo who brought affordable, quality wine to the SCV and supported the nonprofits of the community with an unwavering devotion. It breaks my heart that they are closing Vino 100. These ladies brought so much to the life of the SCV with their Two Women on Wine column that ran bi-monthly in the Escape entertainment section of The Signal and by their presence at so many nonprofit fundraisers that comprise so much of the social life of the SCV. I wish them all the best.  Vino 100, 28112 Newhall Ranch Road  Valencia, 661-294-6886.
