Edison officials say postponement due in part to heat wave

A power outage planned Wednesday for 278 Southern California Edison customers in the north Valencia area was postponed Tuesday due in part to excessive heat, Edison officials said Tuesday.

The outage, which would have affected customers living east of Vista Encantada Drive near Vista Delgado Drive, was canceled partly due to triple-digit temperatures expected to linger through the week in the Santa Clarita Valley, said Edison spokeswoman Anna Frutos-Sanchez.

She declined to identify the equipment to be replaced during the planned outage, citing security concerns. She also declined to provide other reasons for the delay.

The outage, which would have left homes without power and air conditioning from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during forecast 106-degree temperatures, is expected to be rescheduled sometime next week, Frutos-Sanchez said.

A Valencia resident whose power would have been cut Wednesday said he was glad the company decided to postpone the outage. His daughter recently had foot surgery and was planning to leave the house Wednesday, he said.

“The only thing I was concerned about was when they’re doing it — in the hottest time of the year,” said Paul Sweigart, who lives on Jarana Court.

He said he hopes temperatures won’t be as high next week.

“That’s a good start,” Sweigart said of the delay. “They must have noticed how hot it is.”
