They say all good things must end, but sometimes the ending, like that of the phoenix, is also a new beginning.

Such is the case with our dear old Escape. This will be the final issue of that venerable publication. However, never fear, your favorite things from Escape, and a whole lot more, will now be found in our new weekly publication, Connect SCV — which will come with your Signal every Wednesday morning, starting next Wednesday, Aug. 29. That way you will have a two-day head start on planning your fun each weekend!

I will be your Connect SCV editor and, as such, I will spare no effort to bring you what you want and need to keep abreast of the good times happening in the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond. Connect SCV will be bigger, better, bolder and brighter, and we are going to have some fun, my friends. In addition to connecting you to all the hottest local events in theater, music, sports and family fun, we will now do the same for venues beyond our valley.

Each week our travel section will feature a special getaway, and we will cover restaurants, books, museums and those out-of-the-way spots you won’t find out about elsewhere. Humor columns, News of the Weird, video games, gadgets — you’ll find everything you need to “connect” to arts, entertainment, dining and more.

See you next Wednesday in Connect SCV!

I was a loyal reader of Escape for many years before I became editor of Escape in 2000. I took a short break in 2008 and when I returned it wasn’t long before I resumed the direction of Escape with Escape Editor Jim Walker doing most of the heavy lifting.
Escape has served the SCV well. However, as we all age, a facelift here and there is always welcome — and at times necessary. Connect SCV will be new, fresh and a welcome addition to The Signal family.
Movie reviews will shift to the pages of The Signal. Look for opening weekend movie reviews (by Roger Ebert and others) in Friday’s editions of The Signal beginning Friday, Aug. 31.
