AGOURA — A 169-yard rushing performance by Golden Valley senior running back Leon Jacobs wasn’t enough to save the Grizzlies from a 17-10 loss to Agoura High on Friday Night at Agoura High School.

This is the third straight close game the Grizzlies have lost.

The previous two this year, they led in the fourth quarter.

The Grizzlies (0-3) have now lost 10 straight games dating back to last Sept. 23.

Throughout the game, Golden Valley’s one-dimensional offense put its defense in tough positions.

In the first quarter, the Chargers offense took over inside the Golden Valley 25-yard line twice.

Once following a failed fourth-down conversion, the other following a muffed kickoff return on special teams.

Agoura junior quarterback Jack Barmasse took advantage by finding wide receiver Andrew Costin for a 17-yard touchdown with 1:23 to play in the first quarter to give the Chargers a 9-0 lead.

Outside of the touchdown strike, the Golden Valley defense held Agoura (2-2) in check.

Unfortunately, the Grizzlies managed only 65 total yards in the first half. They failed to complete a pass until the third quarter.

Agoura took a 17-3 lead after a 12-play, 77-yard drive that ended in an 11-yard touchdown run by Cody Banks.

Jacobs brought the game within reach with an 89-yard touchdown run with 7:37 to play in the fourth quarter.

On a late drive, Golden Valley quarterback Chase Lewis fumbled with 1:29 remaining, sealing the Chargers’ win.
