CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) — A fire that began during a training exercise on the Camp Pendleton Marine base has burned more than 500 acres.

U.S. Marine officials say Saturday that the fire is moving rapidly north toward an area where the Southern California base borders the Cleveland National Forest.

The fire began Friday in an area often used for artillery training. Officials say firefighters have contained the south and west portions of the blaze.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage to structures.
