A Sept. 14 letter to the editor titled “A more sensible location for the Civic Center” questioned the city’s role in siting a new courthouse and Sheriff’s Station, both proposed to be built at Castaic Junction.

The city of Santa Clarita has been involved in this issue, and the Santa Clarita City Council is on record as opposing moving the existing SCV Sheriff’s Station from its current location at Valencia Boulevard/Magic Mountain Parkway to an area further away from the population base it serves.

Additionally, the City Council offered the state city-owned land on which to build the new courthouse, located on Golden Valley Road, which was rejected.

Right now the city and county are in discussions about a future Sheriff’s Station that will best serve our community well into the future.
