The Space Shuttle Endeavour makes its last trip to Edwards Air Force Base Thursday and is scheduled to take off Friday and head to Los Angeles, where it will make its home at the California Science Center.

The base in the high desert will not be open to the public to glimpse the shuttle, and Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management officials said residents shouldn’t try to drive on or near Edwards.

They also warned motorists not to stop on roads or highways to take photos as Endeavour, on the back of its 747 carrier, flies overhead because they could cause traffic problems or collisions.

During its Friday flyover of California, the shuttle is scheduled to make low dips over the state Capitol, San Francisco and several L.A.-area landmarks including the Griffith Park Observatory, City Hall, Getty Center and Disneyland.

The shuttle will be best viewed after it goes on display Oct. 30 at the Science Center’s Samuel Oschin Space Shuttle Display Pavilion in Exposition Park, OEM officials said.
