Local detectives are still trying to find burglars suspected in at least three in recent incidents in which glass windows were smashed with rocks, and money and consumable items were taken.

Sometime between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 6:30 a.m. Thursday, thieves smashed the glass door of the Book Exchange on Tournament Road in Valencia, according to reports filed by deputies of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“We’re still trying to find them,” Lt. Tom Bryski said Sunday.

When deputies responded to the Book Exchange, they noticed the smashed glass and went inside looking for suspects.

They found four cash registers open.

Thieves made off with $4 in quarters and nickels, they reported.

The case was cross-referenced with a similar burglary in their report.

Between 2:15 a.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday, thieves smashed the glass door of restaurant La Toscana Trattoria on Tournament Road and stole $200 cash from the register and two bottles of wine, deputies reported.

As in the Book Exchange burglary, they found rocks amid broken glass.

In a third similar incident, burglars smashed the glass door at Lyons Car Wash on Lyons Avenue in Newhall.

The burglary happened about 5:45 a.m., deputies said.

Thieves stole an undetermined number of potato chip bags and other snack items identified by investigators as candy, mixed nuts and trail mix.
