Letter: Home-schooling denies social growth

Home-schooling is an inferior education. The No. 1 concern in schooling is the social aspect. That is, having to sit next to and intermingle with all types of human beings provides the best education possible.

I say schooling is more about the social factor than the academic factor. Smart students must learn to associate themselves with the not-so-smart students and all the ramifications that entails.

Those students who believe in racial harmony must learn to confront racists of all types. Good-looking students must intermingle with students who are not as fortunate.

Also, classrooms represent the venue in which sexual awareness is first encouraged. Indeed, the student in a classroom setting seeks out for the first time, and subsequent times, the opposite sex.

In fact, for most students, the first love affair is achieved in the classroom, not at home.

I do not mean to dismiss gay lovers. They, too, first fall in love via the classroom setting, not home-schooling. Yes, the larger portion of a quality education comes about via the social interactions of all types of students.

Count me out when it comes to home-schooling. It just does not do the proper job in regards to the social interplay among students.

After all is said and done, home schooling hurts the students’ formative years. I also disagree with an online education for all the same reasons.
