The 28th annual SCV Community Expo kicks off this weekend in historic downtown Newhall on Main Street from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday.

This year’s annual community expo, sponsored by the SCV Chamber of Commerce, is in partnership with the Old Town Newhall Association and the city of Santa Clarita. Holding the event in downtown Newhall showcases renovations in the area’s business district, as well as the city’s new 30,000-square-foot library.

“Old Town Newhall Association and the city of Santa Clarita are both strong supporters of small businesses in Santa Clarita,” said Terri Crain, president and CEO of the SCV Chamber. “We are excited to team up with them to provide even better exposure of our local business owners to reach residents in the community.”

While the community expo continues through 9 p.m., the SCV Taste of Expo, for Chamber members only, will be held between 6th and Market streets Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Serving as the Chamber’s October Mixer, the Taste of Expo is open to Chamber members for $20 admission fee, said Cheryl Ramirez, director of member services.

“Taste of Expo was a logical addition to our mainline event. Local restaurants need the support of the community as much as other Chamber members,” Crain said. “Offering them a chance to really show off their best menu items will make Expo an even better, more anticipated local event.”

Local residents attending the day-long Community Expo will be treated to some new events, said Chris Donald, Expo chairman. Besides the many business booths with services and products for consumers, a variety of bands will provide entertainment and there will be a sub sandwich eating contest.

“We are looking forward to a great day,” Donald said. “Small business is the heart and soul of our community here in Santa Clarita. Expo is one of the best events to help connect our residents to all that we have to offer here.”
