The California Association of Enterprise Zones will hold its annual conference in Santa Clarita on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16. The association announced Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner will be the keynote speaker.

“We are excited to hear from Mr. Jenner about his outstanding Olympic career and the struggles he’s had with overcoming adversity,” said Craig Johnson, CAEZ president. “We have to be champions of the Enterprise Zone program, and we’re hoping that Mr. Jenner can provide us with insight and motivation.”

Also, speaking at the event, to be held at the Hyatt Regency Valencia, is LaRae Pieroni, senior director at ADP Tax Credit Services.

The Santa Clarita Valley is one of 42 Enterprise Zones in the state. California’s program was established in 1984 to stimulate business investment in depressed areas of the state and to create job opportunities.

The annual CAEZ conference is an opportunity to hear from state leaders, attend workshops on best practices, learn tactics to maximize job creation and business retention from peers and discuss how to improve the Enterprise Zone program, which remains Santa Clarita’s largest business attraction and retention program, said a spokesman with the city of Santa Clarita.

On Nov. 14, conference attendees will eat lunch at Salt Creek Grille and can play an 18-hole shotgun tournament at Robinson Ranch Golf Club.

While the primary focus of the event is to provide educational workshops for Enterprise Zone managers and administrators, Santa Clarita business owners can also get involved by attending the keynote luncheon on Nov. 15 featuring Jenner.

Jenner became known as the “World’s Greatest Athlete” at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal when he broke the world record in the decathlon with a score of 8,634. He has channeled this achievement into many successful ventures, including becoming a motivational speaker.

Tickets for the luncheon are $75 per person and may be purchased online at or by calling 661-255-4347.
