Hart district school board members are expected to vote Wednesday on what officials hope is the final version of an environmental impact report for the proposed Castaic high school site in Romero Canyon.

The environmental impact report for the high school was released earlier this month and is now available on the district’s website

William S. Hart Union High School District board members are expected to vote on certification of the report at their meeting Wednesday.

“It’s a huge step in the process, and it puts us closer to the actual building of the high school,” board President Gloria Mercado-Fortine of the document’s release.

However, Mercado-Fortine said, there’s still a lot of discussion and work to get done toward the district’s 12-year-old goal of bringing a high school to the area.

Directly above the link to the environmental impact report on the district’s website are a pair of reports: a 42-page report that cites concerns and a 42-page report that cites how they will be addressed.

But there could still be discussion of the access route, for example, even once the report is certified, Mercado-Fortine said. The access route has been the most contentious issue in discussion that followed release of the draft EIR.

“(If the document is certified), we can start getting down to some specifics in terms of the site and a construction time line,” Mercado-Fortine said.
