English-only ballots, please

To The Editor:

I recently received my sample ballot for the April 8 election, which has brought three questions to mind: Doesn't a voter have to be a U.S. citizen in order to vote? And doesn't a person need to speak and understand English in order to become a citizen? I believe the answer to both is "yes."

Then why is this ballot printed in two languages? If a person cannot read and/or understand English, there is no way that that person has a right to vote in our elections!

No (dwindling) public funds should be spent on the printing of voting materials in any language other than English. We must demand a change by our voting officials.
