Hart girls tennis simply ran into a team with more firepower in a 12-6 loss to Troy High in Fullerton on Friday in the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs.

“They were better,” said Hart head coach Chris Mansfield. “The three singles were very strong and doubles were strong all the way down through the line. And their No. 1 (singles) was obviously better than all of our (players).”

That No. 1, senior Camille DeLeon, a Cal State Fullerton commit, swept 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.

Mansfield said he knew it was going to be an uphill climb early when the vaunted Hart singles players dropped two sets in the first round.

The Indians scored five wins on the singles side on the day.

Jackie Resler won two of three sets 2-6, 7-6, 6-0, as did Proyfon Lohaphaisan 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Natalia Munoz won one set – 2-6, 0-6, 6-2.

Hart got one win on the doubles side from Lauren Dam and Bailey Sindle 4-6, 6-7, 6-1.

Troy is now 15-4. The Warriors finished first place in the Freeway League.

Troy went to eight straight CIF championship matches from 1999 to 2006, winning in 2001, 2004 and 2005.

Hart finished the season at 13-4. The Indians made it to the Division III quarterfinals last year, won a co-Foothill League title this year and lose only one senior this season to graduation in No. 2 doubles player Brooke Seward.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Mansfield said of next season. “Obviously we’ll be a lot better next year (with the experience). It should be fun for everybody.”
