LOS ANGELES (AP) — One man is dead and another wounded after trying to stop a vandal scrawling graffiti on a Los Angeles church.

Police Sgt. Herb Chang says the men were shot after emerging from their storefront Filipinotown church to challenge the vandal.

Coroner's investigators tell City News Service that 25-year-old Andres Ordonez died at the scene. Police say a man in his 40s was hospitalized and is reported only as stable. They have not released his name.

Police say they are looking for three suspects. They say the gunshots came from across the street from the church as a female vandal was spraying red paint on the wall.
