A blaze broke out at an apartment complex on the 28100 block of Seco Canyon Road early this morning, according to a fire official.

Eddie Pickett, a supervising fire dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, said flames had gone through the roof of a two-story apartment house and that firefighters were working to keep the fire from spreading.

The fire was first reported at 1:32 a.m., according to Pickett. He said about 40 firefighters were fighting the fire.

Preliminary reports indicate that officials in the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will shut down northbound traffic south of the apartment complex.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
