Towsley Canyon is a year-round home for some birds. 8 a.m. early morning bird hike in Towsley Canyon. Beginners are welcome. Bring your binoculars and meet at the entrance of Ed Davis Park at Towsley Canyon, 24255 The Old Road, Newhall. Two-hour program. Jan. 24

Feb. 13
Be transported to a "Romantic Evening in Paris" at the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Sweetheart Gala from 6 p.m. to midnight in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Valencia. The 2009 sweetheart couple is Dale and Tamara Donohoe. The evening includes dinner and dancing with "Crush" an eight-piece band performing everything from Motown to Madonna. The AMGEN Tour of California will bring the drama and excitement of a professional bicycle stage race to the Santa Clarita Valley from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. McBean Parkway and Town Center Drive in Valencia. The world's top professional teams will compete over an eight-day, 700-mile race with Santa Clarita hosting the start-line of Stage 7 from Santa Clarita to Pasadena. Info:

Community hiking club
Saturday - Mt. Lowe to the Hotel Ruins - 6-mile round trip. Meet at Towsley Canyon at 8 a.m. to carpool to the trailhead in La Canada at 8:15 a.m.

Hot Wheels exhibit in Santa Paula

Skate excursions to Simi Valley
The city of Santa Clarita offers excursion to Skate Lab in Simi Valley Saturday and Feb. 7. Skaters wishing to attend must bring a helmet, valid I.D. and city registration form provided at Guests ages 10 to 17 should bring a notarized SkateLab waiver, available at Kids under 10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
