A 75-year-old Newhall man was charged with a felony hit and run following a traffic collision that left one woman injured, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies said Monday.

The man was arrested last week after the alleged victim’s husband put together records and a video recording of the accident taken from a business surveillance camera near the scene.

The woman, a Canyon Country resident, was turning left off Drayton Street onto Railroad Avenue when the collision occurred Oct. 26, a sheriff’s deputy wrote in report filed at the Sheriff’s Station on Monday.

According to the deputy, the woman’s husband obtained a copy of a video surveillance camera from a business near the crash site, downloaded the footage onto his laptop and showed it to the deputy.

The footage allegedly shows the suspect getting out of his car and looking at the damage to the front of it. Then, according to the report, the suspect got back into his car and left the scene.

The deputy wrote that he also saw documented evidence of the woman’s injuries.

The woman, contacted by The Signal on Monday at the dental office where she works, declined to comment on the collision or the extent of her injuries.

After the deputy reviewed the video footage, he contacted the suspect.

“I asked him if he was involved in a traffic accident on Oct. 26 and he said ‘yes,’” the deputy wrote.

At that point, the deputy detained the suspect, a retiree who turns 76 next week.

Delbert Lee Perry, 75, of Valley Street in Newhall, is charged with hit and run causing injury.

Perry was arrested Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. with bail set at $50,000. He was still in custody Monday at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
