LOS ANGELES (AP) — Four people were taken into custody during an intense overnight search following a shooting that wounded a sheriff's deputy in south Los Angeles.

LA County Sheriff's Deputy Kim Manatt says more suspects are being sought Saturday, though the containment area is smaller and fewer deputies are part of the search.

Manatt wouldn't say if those being questioned include the suspected shooter, a man described as wearing a white-striped hoodie.

The wounded deputy is in stable condition after undergoing surgery at a hospital. No other details of his injury or condition were released, and his name is being withheld.

The member of the street gang bureau was shot Friday night in the Florence area.

The department has not provided details on what led up to the shooting.
