College cross country: TMC's Gilbertson wins NAIA national title

The Master’s College’s cross country runner John Gilbertson did what he has done all season on Saturday afternoon in Vancouver, Wash.

The senior remained undefeated on the season by winning the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics cross country national championship to earn the Mustangs first individual cross country title in school history.

His time of 23 minutes, 56 seconds on the 8K course was 10 seconds ahead of Greg Montgomery of College of Idaho.
Overall, the Mustangs’s men’s team finished eighth out of 31 teams represented.

TMC’s scoring runners finished in the top 107, with Anthony Pizzo (10th, 25:02), David Eller (75th, 26:10), Matthew Crichton (89th, 26:23) and John Hurd (107th, 26:37) scoring for the Mustangs.

Ryan Freeman (120th, 26:44) and Camden McAlister (164th, 27:28) also ran for the Mustangs.

While the women’s team did not qualify for the national championship race, three members of the squad made it as individuals.

Junior Hannah Kellerman finished eighth overall with a time of 17:56 to lead The Master’s College.

Saugus graduate Karis Frankian was 26th in 18:26 and Katrina Graham finished 59th in 19:00.
