Lockheed Federal Credit Union has selected Saugus High School senior Clinton Ibarra as the recipient of its Student of the Month award for February. He was selected because of his overall performance, including academic accomplishments, extra curricular activities and leadership abilities.

"Clinton (Ibarra) is outstanding in every way," said Counselor Ilene Blok, who nominated Ibarra for the award. "He is a strong (Advanced Placement) scholar, having already passed four exams, and he is planning to take three more."

Ibarra also spent some time on the court, as he has been on the tennis team at Saugus High.

As a member of the Key Club, he has taken a leadership role, keeping track of 200 students and their volunteer hours. He also motivates the students and has committed himself to completing work in the community. Saugus High has recognized Ibarra for his dedication to leadership at the school.

In the top five percent of his class, Ibarra shows perseverance in academia. While balancing his school and community work, he also works part time during the week.

Ibarra is well on his way to deciding his future, as Claremont McKenna College selected him for a special student recognition weekend, Blok said.
