The festively decorated Metrolink Holiday Toy Express will stop at the Jan Heidt Newhall Metrolink Station to give holiday performances and collect donations for the “Spark of Love Toy Drive” 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25. Residents are invited to greet the Holiday Toy Express and bring a new, unwrapped toy to be collected by Santa, Mrs. Claus and friends aboard the train. All toys will be donated to the Southland Firefighters’ “Spark of Love Toy Drive.” The Newhall Metrolink Station is located at 24300 Railroad Ave.,  Newhall. Info:

Tuesday, Nov. 27

Zonta, Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles and the Newhall Boys and Girls Club will sponsor a girl’s robotics team. All sixth, seventh and eighth grade girls are invited to attend the meetings; Tuesdays beginning Nov. 27, until April 2013 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Meetings will be a held at the Newhall Boys and Girls Club:  24909 Newhall Ave. Newhall. Thursday, Nov. 29

Women who are new in the SCV or in a new place in life, are invited to join the SCV Newcomers and Friends for “Coffee Corner” on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m. The get together is a great way to learn more about the 180-member social club’s activities, luncheons, and trips. Michael Ward of Oxford University  will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Valencia library branch, 23743 Valencia Blvd., Valencia, about the heroism of Bilbo Baggins in “Going for Gold in ‘The Hobbit’: The Heart of Tolkien’s Classic Tale.” Ward is a senior research fellow at Blackfriars Hall in the University of Oxford and is the author of “Planet Narnia: The Seven Heavens in the Imagination of C.S. Lewis,” and co-editor of “The Cambridge Companion to C.S. Lewis.” Info:

Holiday Home Tour and Holiday Boutique will be held Saturday, Dec. 1. An indoor holiday gift boutique will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Valencia, 24500 Town Center Drive in Valencia. Open to the public.

The Galaxy Club of Old West Chapter will hold its fourth annual “Breakfast with Santa” 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Old West Masonic Center, 19310 W. Ave. of the Oaks, Newhall. The Women’s Ministry of Acton Faith Bible Church’s 15th annual Holiday Boutique will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1 at the High Desert School’s multi-purpose room, 3620 Antelope Woods in Acton. Enjoy a free cup of coffee or apple cider during your holiday shopping, as well as a chili and cornbread lunch, with an accompanying bake sale. Raffle prizes.

Santa Clarita’s Literacy & Arts Festival is seeking aspiring elementary and high school journalists who are ready to report and write news stories about the events, programs and people at the Santa Clarita Literacy & Arts Festival to be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Old Town Newhall Library in Newhall.

Arrive anytime between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to pick up assignments from Saugus High Journalism students After students have the who, what, where, when, why and how, journalists can write their reports at home and e-mail them to Put “SCV Schools” in the subject field.

The annual Military Honor Christmas Tree Lighting at the Veterans Historical Plaza (Newhall and Market Streets) will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. The event will feature prayers, music, speakers and hot chocolate.  There will be caroling and speakers. Dec. 1 and Dec. 2

Placerita Nature Center Holiday Craft Faire will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2 at Placerita Nature Center, 19152 Placerita Canyon Road, Newhall.Make wreaths and centerpieces from a variety of live greenery, holly, pinecones, mistletoe, dried fruit and seed pods.  Kids crafts include candle dipping and pinecone art.  Santa will make an appearance.
