The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce will host its first Health and Wellness Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at College of the Canyons.

The free event offers free health screenings that test participants’ bone density, glucose levels, cholesterol and blood pressure, among other things.

More than 30 health care businesses and professionals aided the Chamber of Commerce in planning the fair to raise awareness of local health care resources.

About 72 vendors, all health-related, have signed up to host tables at the event, said Nancy Coulter, who chairs the Chamber’s Health and Wellness Committee and represents the American Cancer Society.

“We just have so many resources here and we just wanted the community to know what’s available,” said Coulter, who noted the valley’s major growth over the past couple of decades. “Right now, the way the economy is, there’s a lot of people out there that don’t have insurance or are underinsured ... You can come to one spot and get a cross-section of what’s available out here.”

Representatives from various local health care organizations and service providers will attend, including those from the Medical Board of California and from three Los Angeles County health service departments.

“It’s a family event, and we have the largest variety of health and wellness screenings and educational resources than any other event out here,” said Coulter, who added that the chamber expects attendance of 1,500 to 2,000 people.

Businesses can support the fair by purchasing vendor tables — $150 for SCV Chamber members and $250 for non-members. Or they can support the event by becoming sponsors. Sponsorships exist at four levels: $500 for bronze, $1,000 for silver, $2,500 for gold and $5,000  for platinum. Vendor fees are waived for sponsors.

Current sponsors include Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, The Signal, KHTS AM 1220 Radio, the Magazine of SCV, Providence Holy Cross, Aligned Health and Comfort Keepers.

To become a sponsor, contact Nicole Swanson at (661) 702-6977, ext. 424, or e-mail Reach The reporter at
