Former city employee Frank Oviedo is set to return to Santa Clarita as its assistant city manager, city officials announced Tuesday.

Oviedo will begin his new position in January.

Oviedo previously worked as a management analyst in the city’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services and its finance department from 1997 to 2002. He also was the interim parks superintendent.

He then worked as the deputy city manager in the city of Elk Grove from 2002 to 2009. Since 2009, he has worked as the city manager of Wildomar, a recently incorporated city in Riverside County.

“I am very excited to be returning to Santa Clarita,” Oviedo said in a statement. “The leadership in Santa Clarita is well known for excellence and innovation. Santa Clarita is absolutely a leader in the state — the city everyone wants to emulate for its successes.”

City Manager Ken Striplin praised Oviedo’s prior management experience and said Oviedo would be a “great fit for Santa Clarita.”

“Frank is bringing us 15 years of experience in city government with a number of successes,” Striplin said in a statement.

Oviedo, 46, earned a bachelor’s degree from Fresno State University and a master’s degree in public administration from Arizona State University. He is married and has two children.
