The West Ranch High School Wildcat Marching Band and Color Guard took home the gold Saturday, winning the third Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association Championship Gold Medal in program history.

The Wildcats competed against the 12 highest-scoring bands in the 4A division at Saturday’s competition, held at Warren High School in Downey.

The Wildcats scored 88.33, 1.5 points ahead of West Covina’s South Hills High School, the reigning 4A champion.

The state title caps what has been an award-filled season for the program. The program took home the tournament sweepstakes award at October’s inaugural Valencia High School Field Show and at November’s Hart Rampage Marching Band Field Show Tournament.

“It has been a wonderful year for the marching band and what a great way to finish,” said West Ranch Band Director Jason Marshall in a news release.
