A cold winter storm that brought rain to the Santa Clarita Valley Saturday is expected to bring rain here and snow at higher elevations nearby today through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The threat of showers will increase tonight through Monday night, with a slight chance of showers lingering into Tuesday.

Snow levels will drop between 4,500 and 5,500 feet today on the north slopes of the Los Angeles County mountains then drop rapidly to between 3,000 and 4,000 feet by early Monday morning and could continue through Tuesday.

The Antelope Valley foothills will also be at risk.

The snow storm should affect Interstate 5 near the Grapevine and Highway 2 in the Angeles National Forest, the weather service reported.

Local rainfall amounts are expected to range between one-tenth and one-half of an inch.

Snowfall in the mountains is expected to range between two and six inches.
