County supervisors voted Tuesday to make $479,000 available to buy 31 acres of open space to augment Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park in Agua Dulce.

The 31-acre parcel of land, located at 32820 Deerglen Lane in Agua Dulce, is bordered on three sides by the existing Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park and will be used for public nature education and preservation, according to the proposal approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The land parcel includes two streams, two canyons and is home to a variety of wildlife, including mule deer, mountain lions and bobcats.

According to the Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office, the parcel also contains one 2,625-square-foot house that was built in 1964.

County funds would cover most of project, though the total cost of the land is estimated at $679,000.
The remaining $200,000 for the purchase will come from the state of California Habitat Conservation Fund.
