Santa Clarita has been selected to host the SuperStates Scholastic Chess Championships, city officials announced Tuesday.

The championships will be held March 1-3, 2013, at the Hyatt Regency Valencia.

It will be the second consecutive year the Southern California Chess Federation hosts its annual event in Santa Clarita.

Approximately 500 young players from San Diego to San Francisco are expected to attend the event, which is organized by the nonprofit organization California Youth Chess League.
