Letter: Hearing crickets from the newsroom

I for one am still waiting to find out what happened in Benghazi, but it is being masked by other lesser events.
It was an attack on the sovereign soil of the United States and it killed American citizens. If we are no longer considering diplomatic missions as the sovereign soil of their respective countries, then I guess there goes diplomatic immunity.

Assuming this is the case, I am going to write Mayor Bloomberg of New York City and tell him that all those parking tickets piled up and unpaid by diplomats and United Nations personnel can now be collected. Those parking tickets could be the biggest cash cow in the Big Apple’s history.

The latest hot-button item in the news is the report that president of Syria, Bashar al Assad, is mixing poison gas to use against his enemies, reported to be Arab extremists in his country. Assuming this scenario is true, do all the people of Syria think this is a bad thing? I would think not.

What the news media is not reporting is that the Assad regime has been sheltering the Eastern Orthodox Church within Syria. If extremists take power in Syria, they will slaughter the Christian population, which has had protection there for many years. The Eastern Orthodox patriarch of Antioch and all the East has been reigning from Damascus, Syria, since things got a little too hot for his church in Antioch, Turkey. This church has millions of members worldwide with the largest population being in the Middle East.

Patriarch Ignatius Hazim has just passed away which has greatly increased the angst of the Christians in Syria; he is the equivalent of a pope to them. For some reason, our “loving and caring” government has been silent on this subject, and the death of Patriarch Hazim has gone unreported in the media.

Let’s back the bus up and get some simple truthful answers about what is happening in the Middle East—starting with Benghazi.
