Merry Christmas to everyone in SCV Scene land! I hope you find just what you want under your Christmas tree this year. I’ve love this chilly weather. It really puts me in the Christmas spirit! It reminds me of Christmas past, growing up in the Pacific Northwest when you couldn’t leave the house at Christmas without a jacket, mittens, a scarf and a hat! I love that I’m able to wear my beautiful cashmere scarf made in Scotland that I purchased when I was there in September!

Wakefield Court

Is there a friendlier, kinder and more fun place to live than on Wakefield Court in Saugus? I was fortunate to be included Friday night at their annual block party and saw KNBC weatherman Fritz Coleman arrive and the KNBC Channel 4 news van set up to share Wakefield’s spectacular light display with the Southern California KNBC audience during the 11 p.m. news hour. I arrived home in time to see the segment on television. Coleman described Wakefield Court’s display as “legendary” on his “Fritz’s Holiday Lights” segment. He said people from throughout Southern California come to Wakefield Court to visit the display. Impressive! Way to represent the SCV to the rest of Southern California! I’ve always known that Wakefield Court is special. Make sure to bring a toy to drop off at the Toy Express and a donation for the homeless shelter to put in the box at the other end of the street. Charity begins at home.

Canterwood/Cross Creek

Wakefield Court needs to watch out! The neighborhood of Canterwood/Cross Creek, just a few miles up the road off Benz Road, is coming to claim its share of holiday lights glory. The street was named the co-winner of the street portion of The Signal’s Holiday Lights Contest. If Wakefield is too crowed, head up to Canterwood.

Party! Party! Party!

It’s been a wonderfully festive week of parties and fun in the SCV. The SCV Women and Men of Honor party at Tournament Players Club was a beautiful, intimate event. It was great fun to see Joel Cox, Tamra Levine, Don and Billie Hubbard, Shelley and G. Marshall Hann, Kim and Jeff Greiner, Margo and Bob Hudson, Jo Ann Vindigni, Dora Zavala, Tora Brown, Ed Masterson, Gregg Haglund, Ric Clark and Sandy Guluxs.

Robert and Annie Schwartz also hosted a fabulous party at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. It’s been a great week!

Spirit of the season

The most moving moment of my week was listening to the talented Leslie Garman sing “O Holy Night” for a group of seniors at a board and care home in Newhall. She was accompanied by the extraordinary violin talents of David Ewart. To bring up an old cliché — I would watch those two perform a phone book anywhere, anytime, anyplace.
