Have a nice St. Paddy's day tomorrow... but be careful when you're celebrating! Have you seen all the patrol cars from the SCV Sheriff's Station on the streets lately? I guess SCV Mayor Bob Kellar's "Safety"
campaign is "on a roll"! Don't forget to get your "green" on!

Awesome Auction
I loved the "nautical" theme to the annual Soroptimist Auction.

"Cruising the World with Soroptimist" theme was a blast - kudos to chairwoman Dora Zavala and her crew! Gavin MacLeod (Capt. Merrill Stubing for those non-"Love Boat" aficionados in the crowd) exceeded my expectations. The SCV Theatre Project brought first class entertainment to the stage, too, with a reprise of excerpts from "The World Goes Round." Kudos to Julia Gregory, Victoria Oscar, James Meehan, Susan Wood and Christopher Youngsman for lighting up the stage!

The Walk, to be held Sunday April 27, is currently seeking teams for the event which will be held at Bridgeport Community Park in Valencia. Registration opens at 8 a.m. with the 5K or 1K walk beginning at 9:30 a.m. The event will include a kids zone, food, refreshments, prizes and awards. For more information visit

Colorectal cancer
Are you over the age of 50? Do you have a family history of colon cancer? Have you been putting off getting screened for colon cancer because you don't have insurance, or you don't have symptoms, or you're fearful of the procedure? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then it's time to find out the facts about colorectal cancer and get more information on the free take-home tests Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is providing to all adults over the age of 50 during the week of March 17-21.

The free colorectal cancer screening kits will be distributed from the following locations:
