Cheers for the SCV Chamber
Welcome to February. If you thought January was short, we're now officially in the shortest month of the year.

However, Skip Newhall pointed out something interesting to our newsroom. Look at your February calendar. This is one of those rare times when February actually has four full weeks, Sunday through Saturday.

Chamber installs new leadership
The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce held their anuual installation event on Friday night at a sold out dinner at the Hyatt Valencia.

The Disneyland-themed evening was a salute to outgoing board chairman Charlie Gill. Ed Masterson seems to be the SCV's offical "master of ceremonies" these days and he did an excellent job.

The gavel was passed to incoming chairman Bill Kennedy and new officers and board members were sworn in.

Among those seen at the event were members of the local political establishment including Cameron Smyth, Tony Strickland, Bob Haueter, Bob Kellar, Laurie Ender, Laurene Weste and Marsha McLean and business types Dora Zavala, Rhona Jukes, Beth Hetu, Jeff Lui, Sue Reynolds, Kim Kurowsky, Barbara Myler, Lil Lepore, Shari Fraizer, Dianne and Wayne Crawford, Judy Penman, Carl Goldman, Jay Thomas, Connie Worden-Roberts, Larry Mankin, Jeff Hacker, Marlee Lauffer, Kris Hough, Jason Crawford, Elizabeth Hopp, Dana Cop, Jayne and Chris Fall, David Poole, Shelley and Gary Hann, Harold and Jacquie Petersen, Anna Ott, Greg McWilliams, Kathy Keysor-Smith, Kathy and Charles Sturkey, Tora Brown, Amy Cop, Bill and Cathy Kennedy, Willie Pieitez, R.J. Kelly, Brian and Lindsay Koegle, John and Joni Shaffery, Sharyn Quinn, Art Lugo, Scott and Vanessa Wilk, Stephen Tako, Bob and Margo Hudson, Greg and Chell Amsler, Kim Altobello, Paul Strickland, Diana Vose and Ernest Guaderrama, Charlie and Kathleen Gill, Sheryl and John Geraci, Rose and Steve Chegwin, Laina Rob McFerren, Beth Wageman, Sharon Bronson, Valerie and Ed Masterson, Mike Lebecki, Maria Gutzeit, Lois Bacchio and Bruce Fortine and Gloria Mercado.

The Signal table included Paul De La Cerda, Lila Littlejohn, Catherine Stebbins, Morris Thomas, Maureen Daniels, Melissa Gasca and Laura Kirchhoff, who were all on hand to cheer for Publisher Ian Lamont, who was installed to the Chamber board.

Elks Roast of Carl Goldman
Another well-attended event to kick off 2009 was the Elks Roast with Carl Goldman as this year's roastee. Among those seen at the party were Tony and Reena Newhall, Ken and Jenny Striplin, Mike Dunkle and Diana Sevanian, Barbara Mylar, Scott and Vanessa Wilk, John Heyes, Wayne Crawford. Jim and Liz Seipel, Barbara Cochrane-Stearns, Lois Bacchio, Adele Macpherson, Judy Penman and Frank and Charlotte Kleeman. I hear the roasters, Steve Sturgeon, Jeff Hacker, Rachel Singer and Janice Murray all did an outstanding job, but who can compare to Don Fleming? He's the roasters' roaster.
