Sierra Pelona Wine Fest now April 20

I was sad to see the first Sierra Pelona Wine Festival postponed this past weekend. It was the right call due to all the rain we had in the days leading up to Saturday. I just wish they had picked another day, instead of April 20 with conflicts with the Cowboy Festival! I hate having to chose between two things I love, especially when it is Cowboy Festival versus wine!

St. Clare’s Fish Fry!

Six Flags Magic Mountain
Did you miss last Monday’s “The Bachelor” on ABC? No fear, you can see “The Bachelor” Sean Lowe entertain a one-on-one date at Six Flags Magic Mountain “on demand” if you subscribe to Time Warner Cable.

Mardi Gras Madness
Students Off And Running (SOAR) will host the third Annual Mardi Gras Madness 5K at Bridgeport Marketplace in Valencia on Saturday, March 2.
All proceeds from the Mardi Gras Madness 5K, Mini Madness 1K, and Mega Madness events benefit Students Off And Running (SOAR), a program that provides a fully supported LA Marathon training experience to youth in need living in the SCV at no cost to student participants or their families.
This year marks SOAR’s sixth year of success as the program continues to offer weekly challenges set in a truly non-competitive arena; stressing endurance, self-determination, and perseverance. Student participants choosing to take on this 24 week – 380 mile life changing experience gradually add miles to weekly distance goals until prepared to take on the grueling 26.2 mile LA Marathon in March of each year. Dance Marathon
The Pediatric AIDS Coalition at UCLA, the largest student-run philanthropic organization on the West Coast will host its annual 26-hour Dance Marathon to raise money and educate individuals regarding pediatric HIV and AIDS on Presidents’ Day weekend, Feb. 16-17.
The event, held for the last 11 years has raised more than $3 million toward beneficiaries such as the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF); Project Kindle, a free camp for children affected by AIDS; and the UCLA AIDS Institute.
This year, SCV residents Noor Eid, Andrew Manalang, Ali El-Arabi, Rachel Oseas, Becca Sameyah, and Jolie Stroh will participate in the event.
For 26 grueling hours they must stay on their feet, and they’re doing it for charity!
Each participant must raise at least $250 each.

African Violet Society
I’ve always loved African Violets. My grandmother used to grow them on her window sill in Seattle. I’ve never really had a green thumb, but for those who do the Burbank African Violet Society is having their next monthly club meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Magnolia Park United Methodist Church, 2828 West Magnolia Blvd., in Burbank. The program will be presented by our guest speaker “Mike” from Green Arrow Nursery and the topic will be on “Rose Cultivation.” Guests are always welcome to attend. For more information call 818-951-3597.
