Trailing by three points at halftime, The Master’s College rallied in the second half to secure a 60-50 victory over San Diego Christian Saturday at TMC.

The Mustangs captured the lead in the early stages of the second half with 23-4 scoring run, as they never looked back, and bounced back in Golden State Conference play.

“We came together and played together tonight,” said TMC head coach Dan Waldeck. “We knew it would be physical. Being poised was our main focus.”

After allowing the Hawks to shoot 55.6% in the first half, TMC limited San Diego Christian to just 10-of-35 shooting in the second half.

Whitney Best and Lena Rivera led the way for the Mustangs on defense as they finished with four and two steals, respectively.

In total, TMC recorded 12 steals and forced San Diego Christian into 14 turnovers.

“We played a little zone in the first half, and it seemed like they didn’t feel the pressure,” Waldeck said. “We switched to basic man-to-man in the second half and we got more comfortable and started to get in transition.”

TMC outscored San Diego Christian 37-24 in the second half.

Jacquelyn Marshall led all scorers with 19 points.  The junior forward finished with a double-double as she grabbed all ten of her rebounds in the second half.

The Mustangs were outrebounded 16-9 in the first half, but finished with a 37-36 advantage on the glass.

“At half time, coach (Waldeck) gave us some time collectively as a group to figure things out. I knew what I was going to have to do for us to win,” Marshall said.

Rivera finished with 10 points, while Zoe Scott and Kelly Burns each added eight.

TMC will be in action again on Tuesday as it travels to Costa Mesa to play No. 3 Vanguard.
