Letters: Manti Te’o — Victim or scapegoat?

I cannot believe the publicity that this kid (Manti Te’o) is getting for this alleged hoax. I really criticize the news media for giving this subject more coverage than the attack of the Benghazi Consulate back in September 2012.

As far as I can see, there has not been a crime committed, so drop it. Why are you wasting so much time on this insignificant issue?

If it’s true and he was a major player, then let him and his family deal with him. Let the NFL deal with him if they want to.

In September when the embassy was attacked and four Americans, including the ambassador, were killed, there was a cry for justice. Then all of the politicians that were even close to this incident stood up and recited their lies and a whole lot of bull and the press let it die down.

But not with Manti Te’o. No, sir; we are not going to let him get away with this.

I guess going after this kid for supposedly pulling this hoax for attention so that it might increase his chances of winning the Heisman Trophy, which he did not, must have come from USC alumni who were upset over their loss to Notre Dame.

But now he has to deal with it, and the media should just move on to something that really counts.

Deal with it. Is this the most important thing you have to report on? Either way, hoax or not, it is of no consequence to anyone but Manti Te’o.

This alleged hoax surpassed the Reggie Bush fraud in media coverage. Bush defiantly committed fraud and got money and/or gratuities for him and his parents, and what happened to him? NOTHING!

Oh, so he had to give his Heisman Trophy back, big deal. He dropped it off on his way to the bank to deposit his millions from the NFL.

And who got punished for Reggie Bush’s transgressions? USC, of course.

To the media: Put it to rest and give us some quality reporting for once.
