What is a FICA credit score, and how can a bad score be corrected? What money management and budgeting skills are necessary to plan for a secure future? What are the unique credit and economic issues that accompany a divorce?

These topics and more will be covered at the second in a series of LifeForward workshops sponsored by Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley to help women gain control over their lives. This month's free workshop is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Valencia Library Community Room.

Panelists include Amira Mendias, a financial counselor from Total Financial Solutions; Michelle Woodfork, loan processor from Tower Funding; and Mathew Denny, CPA, PFS, a partner with Denny & Company, LLP.

Topics to be covered include creating a budget and planning for the future, FICO scores and credit repair, understanding how to protect credit standings in the event of divorce, and understanding personal taxes and accounting.

The LifeForward workshops are an outgrowth of Zonta's Breakthrough to Success workshops which drew accolades from women who took advantage of the sessions last year. Thirty-eight women attended the first workshop in this year's series, devoted to balancing work and life commitments and setting goals.

This month's workshop topic is particularly pertinent given the uncertainty of today's economy, according to DeAnne Joy, chair of the Zonta program.

The theme for the 2009 series is LifeForward: Believe, Build, Be: Believe in your unlimited power and potential, Build the skills necessary to succeed, Be the powerful woman you are meant to be!

Future topics to include:
Health: Discover a multitude of tips for nutrition, wellness, and fitness for maximum vitality - March 21.

Communication Skills and Relationships: Enhance interpersonal relationship skills at home and at work -April 4.

Employment: Learn about transferable skills, interviewing skills, resume preparation, and local resources for job search - May 16.

All workshops are free and will be held on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Valencia Library, 23743 W. Valencia Blvd., Valencia 91355.

Space is limited and child care is not available. RSVP by calling (661) 252-9351.
